Penumbra Pictures started as a very small thought: simply, that we all
need an outlet for our creative work in order to keep producing it. For
us, it was merely drawings, photos and small video pieces. The web was
the obvious choice for a venue as well as an ever-evolving medium. It
would be a gallery space that would remain in business even if no one
came to our openings.
Penumbra also became a state of mind. By dictionary definition, pe·num·bra
(n) is: a partial outer shadow that is lighter than the darker inner shadow
(umbra), for example, the area between complete darkness and complete
light in an eclipse
We liked the basic idea of potential that lay in the definition of the
word penumbra. It isn't quite dark and it isn't quite light: It's what
you see in the space in-between.
Penumbra Pictures is an on-line space, it is the ideal of a company, of
an individual, of a few individualS...to follow ideas and thoughts through
to collaborative projects that yield art, activism, activity, action,
and maybe even an income.
