Working Title: Hecho en México
Liza Bambenek = DP, Dir., Editor
Adrianne McCurrach = Producer
This documentary follows artists Melissa Dyne and Jen Hofer as they complete
the installation of a camera obscura in Mexico City: the first of a number
of works in their project series entitled, Hysteresis, which features
older technologies in a modern world.
The physical construction of the camera gradually shifts into an observation
of the many tribulations of making art in public spaces: in every sense
of the phrase... There's the park residents, the Mexican government, conflicting
designers, materials that never arrive, rain that never stops, beauracracy
that never lets up, the translations, the fabrication, the metal, the
cement, the glass, the time, the money and don't forget: the people.
Hecho en México is about seeing in every kind of way. The camera
obscura shows us what is in front of us already. It reminds us of our
own gaze and how we choose to frame our views. The camera obscura becomes
its own metaphor.
